Whitefriars Ducks

The original version of this site was developed when there was relatively little information known about Whitefriars ducks (2004/5) and indeed when there was little interest in Whitefriars ducks at all.

One of the biggest sources of information about ducks at that time was Whitefriars' own trade catalogues. So all catalogues were studied and the site was developed based on that information.

This proved a valuable resource for those interested in Ducks and indeed it helped to bring attention to them to the fore, where it remains to this day.

The site was updated in February 2006, with new information about the origins of the ducks and many new pictures.

Of course, in the 4 years that have passed since the original site was created, a lot of valuable research has taken place by some dogged and determined individuals, which has increased our collective understanding of not only ducks, but the colours they came in, production runs and individual makers.

In addition, unusual ducks have landed and flown away again, flocks have appeared and duck spotters have gathered at corners of the internet to catch a glimpse of the occasional staggering beauty.

This new version of the site is a combination of the original and all the research that has gone on over the intervening years. I have tried not to deal in opinion too much, but instead have tried to deal in fact and the evidence as it presents itself.

Just like the original, this site is a place to come to see pictures, compare colours, styles and learn about these gorgeous creatures and what makes them special.

Naturally there will be some omissions and some inclusions that don't sit right with everybody, but I have to draw the line somewhere. The thing to remember is that these lovely creatures have brought us all together, give us great pleasure and make us smile on a dull day.

Whitefriars made some fantastic glass, but these ducks were the only things they made with their own personalities!!
